I’m in Wellington where i have just finished a job interview with Telecom. It was a team fit meeting with two of the business analysts already working there. Huong (from Vietnam, no French, born after the war) and Paul (a Huguenot from Brazil via Prussia) It went well, following on from the initial video conference interview with Brent Lewis in early December.
I’m not holding my breath of course. There have been some disappointments. You know, where you’ve aced the interview, they take you round the office afterwards, introduce you to some of the folk there, even teach you the trick with the vending machine (knock lightly above and to the left of the slot just before you deposit your coins). You walk out into the sunshine, hissing Yesss!!, Yesss!!, buy a cigar, drink Belgian beer at the Occidental in Vulcan Lane… by the time Colleen arrives you’re tipsy, triumphant…. only to hear the following week that you didn’t get the job.
Let’s see what happens.
I did get a chance to have coffee and breakfast (two soft boiled eggs with toasted ciabatta) at Floriditas at 161 Cuba Street.
A lovely place.
Colleen and i stumbled upon it year before last when we visited here.
It alone already makes the flight down here for the day worthwhile.
Cuci and Cico were there. (see below)
Aaaah, it was like old times.
